Yield on 10-year Italian government bonds (BTPs). The BTP-Bund spread — the gap between Italian and German yields — is the real-time market verdict on eurozone cohesion and Italian fiscal sustainability. Italy carries the world's third-largest absolute government debt load (€2.9T). During the 2010-12 European debt crisis, Italian yields briefly exceeded 7% — the level widely considered the "point of no return" for sovereign debt sustainability.
