Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Stock Alarm.
Getting Started
What is a stock alert?
A stock alert is an automated notification that triggers when a security meets conditions you define—like price targets, technical indicators, or volume spikes. Instead of watching the market constantly, you set your conditions and get notified instantly via push, email, SMS, or phone call.
How do I get started?
Download our iOS or Android app, or use the web platform. Create a free account, then set your first alert by choosing a symbol, selecting a trigger condition, and picking how you want to be notified.
Is Stock Alarm free?
Yes, Stock Alarm offers a free tier with core functionality. Premium tiers unlock additional features like unlimited alerts, advanced technical indicators, and priority notifications. Visit our pricing page for details.
How do I set up a stock price alert?
Search for a stock symbol, tap "Create Alert," choose your condition (e.g., price above $150), select notification method, and save. You'll be notified the moment your condition is met.
Pricing & Data
Are stock and crypto prices real-time?
Yes, all stock and crypto prices stream in real-time during regular and extended trading hours. Nasdaq stocks may have a 15-minute delay during extended hours only, due to exchange data agreements.
How many securities are supported?
Over 65,000 assets including US stocks, international stocks, ETFs, cryptocurrencies, forex, commodities, mutual funds, and major indices. We're continually adding more.
How often are alerts checked?
Every few seconds. We continuously match streaming price data against your alert conditions, so you're notified within moments of a trigger.
Why are extended hours prices delayed for Nasdaq?
Nasdaq extended hours quotes have a 15-minute delay due to exchange data licensing. All other stocks are real-time during extended hours.
Alert Types
What types of alerts can I create?
Over 125 trigger types: price limits, percent changes, moving averages (SMA/EMA), technical indicators (RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands), volume spikes, 52-week highs/lows, earnings dates, economic data releases, commodity prices, treasury rates, and more.
What is a trailing stop loss alert?
A trailing stop automatically adjusts your stop price as the market moves in your favor. If you set a 5% trailing stop and the stock rises, your stop rises with it. If the stock then drops 5% from its peak, you're alerted.
What are RSI alerts?
RSI (Relative Strength Index) measures momentum on a 0-100 scale. RSI alerts notify you when a stock becomes overbought (above 70) or oversold (below 30), or crosses any custom threshold you set.
What is a golden cross or death cross alert?
A golden cross occurs when the 50-day moving average crosses above the 200-day MA—traditionally bullish. A death cross is the opposite—50-day crosses below 200-day—traditionally bearish. We alert you instantly when either pattern forms.
Can I get earnings alerts?
Yes. Set alerts for 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, or 30 days before a company's earnings date, or specify a custom number of days. Never miss an earnings announcement.
What economic data alerts are available?
GDP, CPI, Fed Funds Rate, Nonfarm Payrolls, Unemployment Rate, Housing Starts, Industrial Production, Treasury Rates (1-month through 30-year), mortgage rates, and more. Get notified when new data releases.
Notifications
How will I be notified?
Choose from push notifications (iOS/Android), email, SMS text messages, or phone calls. You can set different notification methods for different alerts.
What happens after an alert triggers?
You receive your notification immediately. The alert then resets to inactive. If the condition is met again, you'll be notified again—with a rate limit of once per 20 minutes per alert to prevent spam.
If two alerts trigger simultaneously, will I get both notifications?
Yes. Stock Alarm notifies you for every triggered alert. If two call alerts fire at the same time, you'll receive two back-to-back phone calls.
I was told I blacklisted Stock Alarm. How do I fix this?
If you previously texted STOP to our number, text START to resume receiving SMS and call notifications.
Crypto & Other Assets
Can I set alerts for cryptocurrency?
Yes. We support thousands of crypto pairs with real-time price data. Set the same alert types you'd use for stocks—price targets, percent changes, technical indicators, and more.
Do you support options or futures?
We're working on adding support for stock derivatives including options and futures. Stay tuned for updates.
Can I track commodities like oil and gold?
Yes. Set alerts for crude oil (Brent, WTI), natural gas, heating oil, jet fuel, propane, diesel, gasoline, and other commodities.
Account & Billing
How do I cancel my subscription?
iOS: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Android: Google Play → Subscriptions. Web: Account Settings → Billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your billing period.
Do you have a referral program?
Yes. Refer friends and earn free premium months. Many users have scored multiple free months of premium access through referrals.
Why can't I see my stock exchange?
We have direct data agreements with major exchanges. If you need a specific exchange, contact us—we're always evaluating new data sources.
Use Cases
What's the difference between a stock alert and a stock screener?
A screener filters stocks by criteria right now (e.g., "show me all stocks with P/E under 15"). An alert monitors continuously and notifies you when conditions are met in the future. Stock Alarm does both.
Can I use Stock Alarm for day trading?
Yes. Real-time data, second-by-second alert checking, and instant push notifications make Stock Alarm ideal for active traders who need to react quickly to price movements.
How do professional traders use Stock Alarm?
Professionals use multi-condition alerts combining technical indicators, set trailing stops for risk management, monitor sector ETFs for rotation signals, and track economic data releases that affect their positions.
