Australia has sanctioned a Russian individual for his role in a cyberattack on health insurer Medibank MPL, -3.13%, the first time that Australia's cyber sanctions framework has been used, officials said.

Australian health insurer Medibank Private Ltd said on Friday a class action suit has been filed against it by Slater & Gordon related to the cybercrime incident last year in which personal data of current and former customers was leaked on the dark web.

Medibank Private Ltd , Australia's largest health insurer, said on Wednesday that a class action suit has been filed against it related to a breach of disclosure obligations by not revealing information regarding deficiencies in its cyber security systems.

The cybercriminals behind the Medibank ransomware attack have published what appears to be the rest of the data stolen from the Australian health insurance giant.

Australia's biggest health insurer, Medibank Private Ltd, , said on Thursday that hackers had released more of its stolen medical records, as media reported that the complete set of data on millions of customers was now public.

After hackers infiltrated Medibank's systems last week, sensitive health data from their customers, including information about abortions and reproductive healthcare, was posted on the dark web.
