Each filter eliminates a category of risk: the trend filter removes stocks in structural decline, the ELO filter removes stocks that technically look fine but haven't outperformed, and the volume filter removes stocks where institutional investors may be quietly selling.
The ELO threshold here (top 15% of all stocks) is stringent. Only stocks that have beaten the S&P 500 consistently over 26 weekly matchups qualify. This eliminates lucky streaks and sector-wide moves — only companies that have genuinely delivered alpha survive the filter.
