Sony Group Corp. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. are in talks to spend a combined ¥1 trillion ($6.4 billion) on their planned joint factory in Japan, according to a person familiar with the plans.
Sony Group Corp. said it will begin a phased restart of its image sensor factory in Kyushu on Tuesday. This decision follows a magnitude-7.1 quake and numerous aftershocks that shook Japan’s southwestern island.
Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and Sony Group Corp. said they will set up a joint venture to provide factory automation services by combining their expertise in artificial intelligence and image sensors.
